Sometimes folks have a rough time getting to the end goal, whether that’s starting the journey, coming up with the plan, doing whatever it is you dream of doing or simply starting a conversation.
We may get tired and blame chores or daily life, maybe it’s our health or workload, or maybe we’re just not in the right headspace to create our masterpiece.
But a masterpiece isn’t needed.
What is needed is repurposing the feeling that inhibits us from moving forward.
Chatting with Chris Miller
A huge Synergy of Sounds musician, Miller gave us a little insight into his head when creating his last contribution, A Triumphant Return.
“That song is about a hero who just went on his quest to beat the dragon. On their way home, they have to think about their sadness, lamenting on the past.
It’s about the idea that even after we achieve great things, we can still feel a sense of loss or sadness. The hero in the song is reflecting on the journey they’ve been on and the sacrifices they’ve made to get to where they are.”
Chris mentions that he was leaving his own business at the time to take care of other responsibilities, saying, “I think I was at a point where I felt like I had to get a real job… Even now, I still have those thought patterns of feeling like a little kid.”
Miller goes on to speak about how he’s found a place for those feelings of responsibility and childlike curiosity in his music. Even if he’s not constructing a masterpiece in the moment or carving out his next overture.
Wise words for those feeling similar
When you’ve finished a journey, there’s often a sadness and introspection that you’re faced with. You may have other doubts and diminishing feelings that put a damper on your progress. But you can reframe those feelings and doubts into your passions. Create something a little different, something weird, something you didn’t think you could create.
You may be surprised to experience what can come out of those twisted thoughts and depleted desires.

Miller’s currently listening to Familiarty by the Punch Brothers and Somatoast. You can check them out on Spotify or YouTube.
Wise words to remember: just because you’ve finished something doesn’t mean you have to feel elated all the time. And just because you don’t feel like you can keep pushing, doesn’t make those feelings useless. Repurpose them and turn them into something genuinely awesome.
